Bono Mack: Unemployment Rate Unacceptable
Stronger Economic Policies Needed to Put Americans Back to Work
Washington,
Nov 6 -
Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today issued the following statement on the Bureau of Labor Statistics report that the U.S. economy lost 190,000 jobs in October, raising the unemployment rate to 10.2% for the first time since 1983:
“With so many families facing job losses and tough economic times, Washington needs to get serious about enacting sound economic policies and solutions that will help Americans get back to work and build back our economy,” said Bono Mack.
“Instead of taking meaningful steps to fix our economy, the Majority leadership in Congress is continuing its out-of-control spending spree, increasing taxes on small businesses and forcing through a flawed health care bill that expands government bureaucracies and adds trillions to our national debt.
“While hundreds of thousands of Americans file unemployment claims each month and the futures of our children and grandchildren on the line, the Majority in Washington is continuing with business as usual with failed policies that are failing the American people.
“In Riverside County, residents are already facing an unemployment rate close to 15%. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on pro-growth policies that will empower our small businesses and create new jobs and opportunities for residents in our community and in communities across the country.”
